Dignity and Due Diligence for the Unclaimed
The Voice After Life: Advocating for Dignity, Connection, and Closure
Today, over 16,000 documented unclaimed individuals remain across the United States. Many of these individuals lived transient or homeless lifestyles, faced challenges like mental illness, addiction, or criminal histories, and ultimately became estranged from their families. For agencies tasked with investigating these cases, the process can be overwhelming—taking hours, days, or even weeks to locate family members.
Medical examiner offices, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and funeral homes are already burdened by staffing shortages, increased workloads, and limited resources. Without adequate funding for investigative software or specialized personnel, resolving these cases promptly and thoroughly becomes an uphill battle. Tragically, this often results in individuals being labeled as “Unclaimed,” buried in mass graves, or cremated and forgotten on a shelf for decades.
At The Voice After Life, we believe every person deserves dignity and recognition, no matter their circumstances. Our mission is to eliminate the concept of “Unclaimed Persons” by ensuring every individual receives an equal, thorough search for their family at the time of death.
To achieve this, we partner with agencies to alleviate their workloads, reduce costs related to extended storage and case processing, and ensure timely resolution. We don’t stop at serving the deceased—we also extend our services to living individuals who are unable to communicate or nearing the end of life and have no known family. By connecting these individuals with their loved ones, we aim to prevent the cycle of estrangement that leads to the growing number of unclaimed persons.
Our work is more than just finding names; it’s about providing closure to families who have spent years wondering about their loved ones’ fate. It’s about being a voice for those who can no longer speak for themselves.
At The Voice After Life, we are committed to advocacy, compassion, and honoring the lives of those who might otherwise be forgotten. Together, we can bring dignity, closure, and connection back to those who deserve it most.
